Whether we admit it to ourselves or not, the truth is already staring us hard in our faces. The concepts on weight loss are indeed becoming more complex. Of all these, though, one concept that really seems to stand out is the concept on GI or the Glycemic Index.

What is this Glycemic Index and how does it affect weight loss and for that matter, weight gain?

The Glycemix Index is the rate by which the foods that we consume can be broken down into glucose. Actually, the process of digestion and metabolism is that all the foods that we consume will be broken down into glucose, but through consuming the foods that have low Glycemix Index, the broken down foods can have less effect on the rise of an individual’s blood sugar level. Consequently, this means that the person who follows the low Glycemix Index would also have more chances of managing his or her weight.

Once we really look deep into the issue of weight loss and dieting, we will see that foods are seen as part and parcel of the things that comprise our overall health. And if anything, this is not an exaggeration. In lieu of the effect and impact of over consumption of foods, we should thus start exercising portion control. Lack of discipline in terms of portion control is a big problem as it is more than anything else; another thing that is equally important is the food selection that we limit ourselves to.

Obviously, Americans men and women love eating foods that are laden with fats, sugar, and carbohydrates. We all know that these types of foods are exactly those that can hamper the health of the individual and as such, making a lifestyle change is necessary in order to manage weight and to become healthy.

Switching from the lifestyle that we are used to into something that is more filled with dieting restrictions may not be a welcoming change, but in the end, this will really do us good. But then again, what does staying healthy mean and what can we benefit from if we stick to a healthy lifestyle?

Staying healthy means that we have to live a lifestyle that is devoid of vices; common vices include smoking and drinking, but for some people eating has also become a vice. Eating too much can now be considered as food addiction and this condition is not a good thong to boot. Overeating may lead to serious health complications and as such, those people who are beginning to have the irresistible urge to eat should think twice before going into an unhealthy diet plan.

So what to do in order to boost weight loss? Opt for the healthy lifestyle and start a new diet and exercise regimen today!

Many of us have the same question, what is obesity and what causes it? Obesity is a serious medical condition. This occurs when there is an imbalance in calories and the results are many times attributed to factors environmentally and genetically.

In the 80′s, there were literally half of the number of American’s suffering from obesity as there is today. The alarming fact is that those Americans who are overweight or obese has literally doubled in the last two decades. If you look state by state, the state of California sits at number 36 when it comes to adults suffering from obesity and number 32 when it comes to children suffering from obesity. That is 22.7% of adults and 13.2% for children.

Want to hear another alarming fact? When it comes to deaths from preventable causes, obesity is number two, only after smoking. We all need body fat, it gives us the energy our bodies will later need. It also gives the body some insulation and cushioning from actions such as jumping, walking, or moving in general. However, the best defense in weight loss in knowing your specific body type.

There are four general types of bodies. These include:

- Ovary
- Adrenal
- Thyroid
- Liver Belly

The typical person is some combination of all four types. The problem is that ever person also has a type that is more predominant than the others. Each type has their own set of symptoms or characteristics if you will.

Liver Belly

What does someone with a predominance towards liver belly look like/ Well, take a person who is relatively small, their legs and arms are quite thin, but they look like they have a pot belly, as their belly protrudes more so than any other part of their body.

This is known as Liver Belly. Both men and women suffer from this type, which means the distribution of fat is focusing on the belly. However, men seem to suffer from this type to more extremes than women will.

Some symptoms include:

- Soreness
- Back Pain
- Pain in Right Shoulder
- Belching
- Flatulence
- Bloating

Thyroid

With this type, the entire body suffers from the fat distribution. This means that areas such as legs, shoulders, neck, and face all suffer. Some symptoms include:

- Fatigue
- Brittle Fingernails
- Thinning Eyebrows
- Hair Loss
- Fat Craving
- Carbohydrate Craving

Adrenal

This type of body generally shows when the abdomen fat will sag or droop towards your legs. Also known as stress glands, the adrenal glands drive the adrenal body type. Typically those suffering from this type of body type, women and men both, are dealing with extreme stresses and for a long period of time. Some symptoms include:

- Salt Cravings
- Heavy Thigh feeling when using stairs
- Fatigue
- Fibromyalgia
- Lower back pain

Ovary

This type only effects women and can generally be spotted in a few different ways. In most cases, the area above the navel and up to the mid thigh area are small and petite. However, with the Ovary body type, the thigh and hip areas are where the fat is distributed. If cysts exist within the ovaries, the fat generally develops in this area even faster.

Some symptoms include:

- PMS
- Fatigue during Menstruation
- Hip pain during menstruation
- Lower back during menstruation
- Water Retention
- Lack of Libido
- Mood swings
- Acne
- Vaginal Dryness
- Night Sweats
- Hot Flashes
- Infertility
- Heavier Flow
- Hair thinning
- Constipation

Now What To Do?

The really good news is that once you know what type of body you are dealing with, you have the ability to now take steps to address a regimen for weight loss that deals with your specific body type. You now have a purpose and can make a solid plan. Another great piece of news is that each body type has a diet that addresses that specific type, giving you the tools you need to lose the fat and keep it away for good.

Of course, make sure that you are including exercise, natural foods, and healthy foods into your lifestyle. Nutritional supplements could also be useful as well.

Losing weight might seem difficult, but the theory behind it is actually quite simple. To lose weight, you need to use up more energy than your body takes in. When this happens, your body has to rely upon fat stores for energy.

Therefore, it burns up body fat and, with it, excess weight. So, how do you get to the point where your body uses fat for energy? Well, when it comes to our bodies, energy is measured in calories. So, to lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than you burn; simple enough.

One way to create this so-called “calorie deficit” is by eating fewer calories. However, blindly cutting back on food is not a logical solution. Instead, it is a good idea to get a good estimate of precisely how many calories you need to eat to lose weight.

This number will vary from person to person depending on several factors, all of which can impact the speed of weight loss. There are several methods of finding your own optimal calorie number, and, thanks to the internet, it is even possible to calculate this in seconds.

In order to find out how to lose weight, you need to start by knowing how many calories it takes to maintain your current weight. This is known as your “basal metabolic rate” (BMR), which measures the number of calories you would use each day even if you did nothing but lie in bed. BMR may be calculated using the Harris-Benedict formula, which consists of separate calculations for men and women. For women, the formula is as follows:

655 + (4.3 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) – (4.7 x age in years)

And for men: 66 + (6.3 x weight in pounds) + (12.9 x height in inches) – (6.8 x age in years)

For those who do not wish to do such math, there are several websites that offer BMR calculators online. One of these is: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Of course, most of us do not simply lie around motionless all day. So, it is also important to know out how many calories our daily activities utilize. While this will vary from one person to another and one day to the next, there is a standard rule to follow. If you are mostly sedentary, multiply your BMR by 120%. This trend continues as follows:

Lightly active – 130% BMR

Moderately active – 140%BMR

Very active – 150% BMR

Once you know how many calories you need to maintain weight, you want to cut that number down to lose weight. It is best to simply subtract 500 calories from your diet. This will leave you with a 3,500 calorie deficit by the end of the week, and 3,500 is exactly how many calories are in one pound. So, following this method, you would lose at least one pound per week, which is a safe, steady weight loss rate. Add in exercise, and you will create an even greater calorie deficit and lose even more.

How do you get your wife to lose weight?

That was the "gist" of the article.

A real "touchie" subject. And one that was sure to make my female readers a bit "edgy".

But I couldn’t resist commenting on it… as I am sure that both men and women alike would benefit.

So let’s see here, where should I begin?

Oh ya… the title. Well it read… "Getting Your Wife To Lose Weight – 3 Quick Tips For The Man Of The House."

WOW!

I don’t know a woman alive would wouldn’t open that article full ready to lay into the sexist pig who dared write it!

And truth be told… us men are selfish at heart, it’s surely a question on the minds of more men than women would care to know. Perhaps it’s on the mind of your man?…

Anyway, It sucked me in!

And while I expected to find the same old boring blah blah blah…. I was surprised to find that the article actually made some good points. One in particular was without question the best.

And it is this little tid-bit of wisdom that I’m going touch on in this article.

It will not only benefit the men (Could even save their mortal lives!)… who as we all know, while they wish their wifes were thinner… could stand to lose a few pounds themselves!

But it will also benefit all you wives who wish your husbands were thinner, but don’t have the heart to tell them.

Now the point made was more or less along the lines of… "Hey husbands, if you want your wife to lose weight then get off your fat butt and lead by example!"

In other words… while many a naive man has, in a momentary laps of judgment, found himself in the dog house… A far better approach than just telling her, is to lead by example. No words. No talk. Just action.

I’m a firm believer in that ancient passage of wisdom that ever a church going man is familiar… "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?…"

I think it’s found in Mathew or something like that.

Anyway… to be the "man of the house" you have to lead by example.

When you do you tend to gain the respect of your woman.

I have yet to meet a guy who has taken that advice to heart. Who has got off his fat butt and took it upon himself to eat right and exercise. Each day. Becoming passionate about it for his own healths sake. Who’s wife, girlfriend, who ever… didn’t soon there-after follow suite.

And I truly believe that the vast majority of wives would agree… they are more than willing, if their man will first make the sincere effort.

Many people seem to wonder how much should I weigh for my age. Is there any correlation between how much you weigh and your age? It seems like an easy question to answer: Sure there’s some connection between the two…right? Guess what? Wrong!

Apparently, there is no right or absolute answer to this question. Everyone’s body and their chemistry is different in some weigh: none of us has the exact shape, height, muscle-mass, etc.

While all the above may be true, there is an important calculation you can do to help determine whether you are underweight, ideal weight, overweight or obese. This calculation is called the Body Mass Index or BMI.

So what exactly is this is Body Mass Index (BMI) and what’s it all about?

BMI measures your body’s fat based on your height and weight and it is applied the same way to both adult men and women. Perhaps surprising to you is that it does not take age into account, even though age has some effects on your weight and overall health.

Your BMI will classify you as either being underweight, having a normal or ideal weight, overweight or obese.

Here are the BMI classifications:

Underweight – BMI is less than 18.5

Normal weight – BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9

Overweight – BMI is between 25 and 29.9

Obese – BMI equals to or is greater than 30

So, are you curious to find out what your BMI is? There are many BMI calculators on the internet, but personally I recommend you see your doctor as he or she has the proper tools and instruments to provide you with an accurate reading. I have found that when I used online calculators, I did not have an accurate result.

Regardless of your age or height, your weight is still very important to your overall health and mental well-being. And, as we all age, it is important to keep our weight in check; otherwise, it has been well-documentated by medical research that being overweight and/or obese leads to many serious medical complications. Men and Women over 40 wanting to lose weight permanently face the same problem: Fat accumulates very easily and it is harder to lose after 40 as well.

Fat is an important storage medium for energy- and used to be crucial for survival. Through human history, we’ve lasted many shortages and starving periods of time because we could rely on our body fat.

Since our bodies do store fat so easily, it endangers our ability to achieve permanent weight loss. How do fat cells work to make it so challenging for men and women over 40 to lose weight permanently?

If your body takes in more energy as you spend present fat cells fill up. Eating fat, starchy or sugary foods makes no difference – all additional calories are stored as fat. When the fat cells you already hold are full, the body creates new fat cells, a natural process with no restrictions.

Fat cushions increase even more than when you are under stress, but the threat that poses the greatest risk to losing weight over 40 is: Present fat cells are permanent, and won’t be destroyed. You can reduce the amount of fat stored in fat cells, but you cannot reduce the figure of existing fat cells.

A Neuropeptide called Leptin is sent to your brain when fat cells are filled. While the Leptin level in your blood is high, your brain gets the message that you aren’t hungry and don’t need to eat. When your body’s fat cells become empty, the Leptin is gone – and you become hungry.

Now, let’s be totally responsible and unveil a truth: To lose weight permanently over 40, feeling somewhat hungry is something you are going to have to live with. This is an emotional challenge and that’s why I emphasize so much the psychological science behind permanent weight loss- your mind needs ways to cope with that emotional challenge. In order to lose weight permanently, any weight loss program you choose must include moral advice to be effective.

With women, the distribution of fat shifts with age too. For young women, it’s often on the hips and on the tights. Women over 40 will frequently gain fat around the stomach, and visceral belly fat is linked to a number of diseases.

Our bodies are regulated by powerful regulation mechanisms. We tend to have the same weight, even though we do not consume the same number of calories each day. Our bodies then counterbalance for these calories shifts, which leads to another problem for achieving permanent weight loss over 40:

If you are eating too much for a longer period of time, your body adapts to the new weight and will do it’s best to keep it. You will constantly feel the need to “feed” the existing fat cells. The longer you continue on starvation diets, the more overwhelming your hunger pangs can get.

Gaining weight is very easy. Consuming only 100 calories per day surplus of what your body burns will lead to gaining roughly 9 lbs (4.5 kg) per year. And these 100 calories are very easy to acquire. For example, a 12 oz. can of Coca-Cola holds 155 calories, and a Kit Kat Wafer Bar has 218.

To eliminate these 9 lbs you would have to eat nothing for roughly 2 weeks. Or jog 51 hours, or walk 126 hours.
If you want to lose weight permanently after 40, be conscious of the small meals and snacks. These count as well.
