ok I am a 26 year old male that is 6’2 – 195 pounds.

I want to be 185 pounds.

If you were to look at me you would say I am skinny, except the 10 extra pounds ( beer gut ).

So what is the best way for me to lose the weight?

Should I just run? I heard cardio is the best way to burn fat, so should I run/bike/elliptical? or something else?

I have a typical pear shape and it is very difficult to lose weight without looking sickly up top. But I’ve been on a diet to lose some extra pounds, and already have lost a ton, but my lower half is still so huge in comparison to my upper half. Are there any good exercises that will target my butt and thigh areas in particular?

I love my body, but I do have some extra weight I would like to lose. I just want to tone my stomach and my thighs but I want to keep my breasts.

It’s so repetitive that it becomes annoying when people say "I just can’t lose weight" or "I need to just realize that losing weight is not in my future" or "Well, I’m fat, my family’s fat, so that must be what I’m meant to be, fat."

People who think this way are usually those who jump from one fad diet to another. The reason they are saying these things is because fad diets do NOT produce results at all. There is really no point in following fad diets unless you want to stay fat.

To truly lose weight, it all begins with you. No matter which diet you try, without this, it would be extremely difficult for you to succeed. Now, understand what I’m saying here, this is a very important step but it is not the one-step cure-all because there is no such thing as a magic pill or anything like that. What you must do when trying to lose weight is first to believe that it is possible for you and that it will indeed happen. You have to believe that you are capable of this and that you can and will succeed at losing weight and keeping it off.

The more you believe in yourself, the stronger your drive will become to lose weight. Stay focused on that goal and keep nay-sayers away, even if it’s family or friends. Particularly, you should ignore the media and its message of super-thin. Keep your own personal weight loss goal in mind, whatever final weight that is or number of pounds lost. Ignore outside influences, especially negative ones and just believe in yourself.

So now that we’ve got the first step done, here are the rest of the important steps to losing weight.

Make a decision to be serious about making changes to your lifestyle. It may be difficult at first but if you’re serious and you believe in yourself, then just trust that you can do it. Changing your lifestyle towards a more healthy and active direction is going to greatly improve your weight problem, of course, but also your overall well-being, especially emotional and mental health. So just make sure you’re choosing healthy over convenient, fast and fad, as in fad diet.

Part of this healthy lifestyle change includes doing your research about the best weight loss program for you. Avoid fad diets because they work for no one and almost always make you gain weight instead. So don’t opt for the easy way out. Do your research and pick whichever program seems to fit best for you but make sure that the program takes your body as a whole into consideration when it suggests foods or exercises to do, both of which are very important and should be included in any weight loss program that’s worth its while. If you keep that principle in mind, nutrition and physical fitness, you’re already off to a good start with this weight loss plan!

So for good nutrition, you will want your weight loss program to help you focus and easily pinpoint what fresh, whole foods actually are. In my opinion, a good way to figure this out: produce in your grocery store is good, but processed foods are not. So avoid those. Your weight loss program should also help you fast occasionally, emphasis on occasionally.

Also, the program should not make you avoid any particular fresh food because your body does need all of the different types. So be wary of any program that tells you to avoid all together certain vegetables or tells you to eat whatever you want or to fast for more than 2 days at a time.

As far as physical fitness goes, there are very many different methods in this field. The best advice for me to give is that you should first consult your physician to make sure you have his/her approval first. Then you should consult a personal trainer; most gyms give you a free session to see if you like their trainers. Use that!

And ask that trainer plenty of questions, especially geared towards your specific weight loss goals, like if you want to lose weight for a specific event or if you want to lose weight in certain spots). They may tell you to do only cardio, strength training or aerobics or they may tell you to do a combination of all of them, which is probably the best method. Either way, use that resource and if you like him/her, stick with that trainer! They are a great resource even after the 1st free session.

It seems simple because it is. Those are the two (only two) biggest and most important keys to success in weight loss. Without these two, you will be lost. So make sure you believe in yourself first and then change your lifestyle to focus on healthy and physically fit. Here’s to your weight loss success!

I’m 24 yrs old and weighing in at 235lbs. I try to lose weight and so far nothing has helped. There’s nothing wrong with me medically. I joined Weight Watchers and have a gym membership but nothing has helped. I want to lose the weight and actually be able to run for at least half an hour non stop. Currently I cannot run for two minutes without stopping. I’m looking for any advice to help lose the weight and start running; maybe a routine that has helped you.

I bet you said the same thing last year, resolving that I want to lose weight in 2009, but have miserably failed in your attempt to lose weight up to now. If so, don’t worry you are not alone, we all are in the same boat where as losing weight is concerned.

Why did you fail miserably in trying to lose weight this year? You should take a close look at what you have been doing in order to lose that extra fat in your body. Have you been cheated by those eye catching advertisements that promises to lose 75lbs in 1 week?

So if you have resolved to lose weight in 2010, below tips will come in handy as they are not planned to lose 75lbs in 1 week, but will definitely help your body to lose weight gradually.

  1. Slowly eat and chew each bite during meals as this would decrease one’s appetite.
  2. Warm water with just a squeeze of lemon juice before breakfast get the metabolism going for the day, this also help preventing constipation and is excellent for the skin.
  3. Eat only when you are hungry. Do not mistake emotional hunger for physical hunger. Emotional hunger is when you eat to avoid feeling a negative feeling or the food we intake when we feel blue.
  4. If you are feeling negative, just feel that feeling fully and you will release that feeling. Then you do not need to eat anything to cover up that feeling.
  5. Drink extra water before a main meal, this will help to consume less during the main course.
  6. Eight hours after waking up, our metabolism slows down that is why 30 minutes of exercise before dinner will increase the metabolism for about two to three hours. This produces an increase in burned fat even hours after the work out is over
  7. Add alfalfa or mung beans to salad to get extra iron.
  8. Chilli helps to speed up metabolism – even the milder varieties. But remember to not to consume too much chillies as it can help develop gastritis.

Once you start to lose weight, just remember it’s a question of will. Keep doing what is working for you. Stay away from junk food, and you will feel healthier and alive than never before.

Has your weight gotten to the ridiculous point? Are you left huffing and puffing every time you do anything physical because of the extra fat you carry around? Are you fearful of a heart attack every time you have sex?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, it’s probably time you lost some weight. The problem is that if you’re anything like me, you have a lot of trouble with willpower. The willpower problem gets worse the longer each diet and exercise program lasts.

What if you could strip off 20 pounds in just 30 days? What if you could lose 40 pounds in just 60 days? It’s absolutely possible. I know. I’ve done it more than once, but the last time I did it, I also learned to keep it off. Now, I’ll never be fat again.

Here’s the big question. Would you really like to lose 40 pounds in the next 60 days and keep it off for the rest of your life?

Of course you would, who wouldn’t?

To be able to lose weight this quickly, you might be tempted to use diet pills, surgery, or a very low-carbohydrate diet which changes your body chemistry. I don’t recommend any of those things. You and your body are responsible for putting all that fat on you. Take the responsibility for getting it off.

Do you know how you gained that weight? I do. Over a long period of time, you took in more calories than your body burned. It may have only been 50 excess calories a day, but over a long span of time those calories turned into pounds of fat.

A pound of fat is equivalent to approximately 3,500 calories. If you took in 50 calories per day more than you burned, in 70 days you gained a pound. In 350 days you gained 5 pounds. In 5 years you gained 25 extra pounds.

A regular slice of white bread contains about 50 calories. Just one extra slice of bread per day over a five-year period, and you gain 25 pounds. That sounds discouraging, but it’s not really. Why?

Because if just one extra slice of bread per day made you gain 25 pounds, then leaving off that bread means you won’t gain more weight. Leaving off two slices of bread per day, means over the course of 5 years, you will lose that 25 pounds.

When I first started gaining weight in my early 30′s, I drank one or more regular soft drinks every day. My first step to stop gaining weight was to change over to diet soft drinks. Soft drinks sweetened with sugar generally contain over 130 calories per 12-ounce can. Drinking one per day in excess of what your body is burning, translates into gaining more than a pound per month or 12 pounds per year.

The key to all weight loss that doesn’t involve surgery or changing your body chemistry is increasing your daily activity and decreasing your caloric intake. That sounds simple enough.

The question then becomes, “How quickly do you want to lose weight?”

The fewer calories you take in and the more calories you burn each day, the faster you will lose weight.

A typical female who is fairly inactive normally burns about 1,800 calories per day. A male with similar activity burns about 2,200 calories per day.

If you set your calorie intake at 200 calories below the numbers above, and you do extra activities that burn 300 calories per day, you will lose 500 net calories per day, 3,500 per week, and you will lose approximately one pound per week.

If you want to lose weight much more quickly, you can lower your caloric intake further and increase your activity. I don’t recommend going below a caloric intake of 1,000-1,500 calories per day. That can cause problems.

You can, however, increase your activity level gradually until you have a net calorie loss of up to 1,500-2,000 per day. When you do, you will lose about one-half pound per day. That’s around 15 pounds per month. Now that’s losing weight.

You can do even better, but you have to learn to turn your body into a furnace that burns far more calories than you eat. When you get your metabolism rate up high enough, you will probably be amazed at just how much weight you can lose and how quickly that fat will melt away.
