Today is a famous day in history. Dr. Andrew Taylor Still began the first known practice of osteopathy. Never heard of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still? From Wikipedia:

"Still was born in Lee County, Virginia in 1828, the son of a Methodist minister and physician. At an early age, Still decided to follow in his father’s footsteps as a physician. After studying medicine and serving an apprenticeship under his father, Still became a licensed MD in the state of Missouri. Later, in the early 1860s, he completed additional coursework at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Kansas City, Missouri. He went on to serve as a surgeon in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

After the Civil War and following the death of three of his children from spinal meningitis in 1864, Still concluded that the orthodox medical practices of his day were frequently ineffective and sometimes harmful. He devoted the next ten years of his life to studying the human body and finding better ways to treat disease."

Through Still’s research and observations in his clinic, he believed that by correcting problems in the body’s structure, through the use of manual techniques now known as osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), the body’s ability to function and to heal itself could be greatly improved.

He also promoted the idea of preventive medicine and endorsed the philosophy that physicians should focus on treating the whole patient, rather than just the disease.

Preventive… kind of goes hand in hand with being proactive. In other words, in order to prevent something from happening, there has to be some form of proactive behavior and actions.

Are you walking the path you were meant to walk on this earth? Are you being completely proactive in your quest for a better body? Or simply in your quest to lose weight quick?

Are you expecting a different outcome in life? Do you keep doing the same things today, last week, the week before that, and the coming week, that got you to where you are today?

If you DO want a change then DO something different, anything. Experiment, change it up, research how to eat better to lose weight quick. Follow someone that has been there and has already gone through the school of hard knocks already. Whatever it is you do, DO IT DIFFERENTLY! That is if you want to change, and especially if you want to lose weight quick!

I’m 19 years old and I’m starting to like high heels (4-5 inches). My calves are not big, but not slim either (like it’s on its way to getting big and muscular) So I want to know if wearing high heels will make my calves slimmer.

I currently weigh 108 pounds at the age of 15, i used to weigh 143 pounds but lost a lot of weight in a very short space of time, around 3 months. I ate very little and now i eat more however still very small amounts. I have been to doctors who say i am underweight and have a low bmi. However, my ankles are still big and i would really like to know how to lose weight on my ankles without having to eat 500 calories a day. Please help!

Okay, so I have SUPER thick hair and it’s really annoying. It’s really frizzy, dry, and extremely poofy. I’ve tried Herbal Essences, Pantene, and Nexus but none of them made my hair any better. I don’t really want to spend a lot of money on leave in conditioner and stuff like that so what are some natural things I can do with my hair to make it silkier, less frizzy, thinner, and less poofier?

Today most diet and exercise programs focus on choosing the right foods and exercises that will help reduce weight and tone the body. It is a well known fact that both diet and exercise are the key factors required to achieve a healthy body and maintain the desired weight range.

But in order to accurately measure the calories burnt and accordingly customize ones exercise routine it must be measured against a standard of some kind. This is where the BMR – Basal Metabolic Rate plays an important role. The BMR accurately measures the number of calories the body consumes while performing basic metabolic functions such as maintaining internal temperature, pumping blood to the heart, repairing the worn out cells etc.

Normally, if we consume more calories than what we are able to burn through exercise, the excess gets stored as fatty deposits in the body known as Adipose Tissue. Therefore, a good diet and adequate age appropriate exercise are the two main factors than can help us achieve the physique that we desire.

Though every individual has a slightly different metabolic rate, the average tends to be around 70 calories per hour. This rate can vary a little because when we are asleep the rate is slightly lower and when we are awake its slightly higher.

The BMR can also depend on other factors as well such as the internal body temperature. Even a 1/2 degree Celsius increase in body temperature can increase the BMR by upto 7%. This is often noticed when we are running a high fever. If the internal body temperature rises to 4C (7F)above normal, the metabolic rate increases to almost 50%.

Even certain medications such as anti-depressants can lower the BMR and lead to weight gain. This is why it is always recommended that individuals who are following a weight loss diet or exercise program should consult an experienced physician about the adverse effects of certain kinds of prescribed medication. Although taking prescribed medication is in their best health interests, the knowledge that they might put on weight will help to reduce the guilt at least.

There are certain types of fat in diets that are actually considered healthy for the body. These healthy fats, also known as essential fatty acids (EFA) are required to regulate hormones and assist in various electrical functions that take place in the heart, brain and muscles.

BMR can also temporarily change after one has an injury. This is because the body uses the essential fatty acids and proteins to help rebuild the damaged cells and tissues. This knowledge is good to have when one is monitoring their calorie intake and consumption.

Try and avoid consuming foods that are rich in fats and sugars. This is because these foods reduce the BMR as they are lower in fiber and bulk. This actually slows down intestinal activity and thus the body tends to absorb the excess calories before passing these foods through the digestive system. Consuming adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals can help regulate the BMR and keep that process efficient.

BMR in a person is determined chiefly by their genetic make up and other physiological factors. The key to attaining a fit and healthy body is to consume a nutritious well balanced diet and to get adequate age appropriate exercise on a daily basis.

Always monitor your BMR while striving towards weight loss. This will help you to gauge how much you need to increase your BMR before you can achieve the desired results.

I’m comparing the USA made Gerber 06 Auto with the newer Chinese made 06 Assisted Opening “FAST” model. The FAST is an OK knife – but it is a far cry from its American Auto counterpart. I would like to see Gerber make an Assisted Opening version of the USA 06 Auto – using the same quality components and materials. I do like the FAST knife – it will be a decent EDC beater. The G10 handles are very comfortable (I actually prefer them to the USA model Aluminum scales, but forgot to mention it in the video). This knife is a bit slimmer in profile and has a slightly thinner blade. The enclosed backstrap is nice – you don’t have to worry about car keys or coins dinging up your blade through the open backstrap like the USA version. The lock is weak on the Chinese model, the lock switch is garbage as well. The pivot is small on the Chinese version. I’d like to see a drop point version of this knife as well, for a more “utility” function. I will note that the more I use the FAST, the more put off I am by the fact that the “safety” is backwards / reversed as compared to the Auto. As someone who carries a knife while working in law enforcement, the muscle memory issues is important to me – carrying a knife off duty which functions the opposite of my duty knife is annoying. The 06 Auto is a great knife. I would like to see a plain edge version – all current versions are part serrated combos. Most doctors, diet gurus, and fitness experts do not even know about the condition your insides may be in, and will not check. If they have the idea, they will not tell you because there is no money in solving your weight problems, only in medicine and band-aids. And if you ask them about it, they will give you a bunch of medical terms that will only confuse you and deter you from the issue.

There are flushes out there specifically for colon cleansing, but they are not targeted towards the real problem areas so they work more like laxatives. Do some real research with your health in mind and stop wasting your time and sweat on methods of weight loss that are simply not working. You and your family will thank you for it later.
